THRIVE KENYA’S PROGRAMS

Education & Opportunities

Education is not free in Kenya. Restricted access to quality education is one of the main reasons why extreme poverty is passed on from generation to generation.

All children need quality education to develop their skills, realize their full potential, and to provide stability and independence. This is most important in vulnerable, poverty stricken slums where education costs are high. To ensure our partner homes' growing number of children have a chance to succeed, Thrive Kenya provides the following support:

  • Quality education

  • Test & exam assistance

  • Vocational skills training

  • Professional skills & career counseling

  • Mentoring & support groups

  • Life skills education

Health & Wellness

Poverty, poor health, overcrowding, and limited access to food and clean water are some of the many challenges facing children in Kenya's slums.

It is important that growing children's emotional, social, and physical well-being is developed in a safe, caring, and supportive environment. Increased productivity at school and a sense of purpose and confidence in their futures is what we strive to achieve. In the slums of Nairobi, Kenya, access to healthcare is very limited and the cost of needed checkups and medication is not affordable. Thrive Kenya recognizes the importance of the health of our children by providing the following:

  • Balanced meals

  • Nutritional care

  • Health insurance/NHIF program

  • Emotional support through counseling

  • Spiritual health

  • Reunite with family

Home Environment

Children's homes in Kenya struggle to sustain an adequate standard of living in order to function at optimal effectiveness.

Children's homes in Kenya need quality improvement in their processes and amenities to operate more efficiently and effectively and to enable them to better care for the children. Thrive Kenya envisions a coordination of care among our partner homes that is well structured, well monitored, allows each home to be sustainable and provides the needed improvement in all areas of their operations. Included in this program area is as follows:

  • Improved Operational Processes

  • Adequate Staffing at Partner Homes

  • Investment in Self-Sustaining Projects

  • Technology/Computers

  • Library Development

Community Outreach

When Thrive Kenya helps the local community to flourish, more opportunities are available for all those who live within the surrounding areas.

Engaging the local community in various programs helps the many others living in extreme poverty and is a wonderful learning experience for the children at our partner homes. Thrive Kenya is determined to create several community-based programs to upgrade the lives of those living in informal settlements. Some of these programs are the following:

  • Feeding Program for all other children in the community

  • Food shelf for neighbors in the slums

  • Education assistance

  • Skills training

  • Help families meet basic needs

  • Business development assistance
